Real World Training for Real Life Results

We don’t train for the classroom.
We train for your life.

Because let’s be honest… life doesn’t happen in a training center.

A dog might look perfect in a quiet facility, but what happens when the doorbell rings? When a squirrel bolts across the path? When guests come over? When you’re juggling coffee, keys, and a leash?

That’s where most training falls apart.

At Heather’s Dog School, we don’t rely on a “training classroom” bubble. We specialize in Private Training in the Real World, where distractions are real, routines are real, and results actually stick.

The Myth of the "Group Class"

Why we exclusively teach Private Lessons.

We are often asked, "Don't I need a Group Class to socialize my dog?"

The honest answer is: No.

Group classes are artificial. They simulate a "classroom" environment that doesn't exist in your daily life. Often, they are too chaotic for learning (over-arousal) or too sterile for real-world proofing.

We do it differently:

  • The "Driving School" Rule: We start in the "Empty Parking Lot” (just your dog) to build the engine and the brakes, not in rush hour traffic (group class).

  • Controlled Distractions: When your dog is ready, we bring the distractions. We utilize our own trained "helper dogs" to teach your dog how to ignore other dogs calmly.

  • Field Trips: We take the training on the road. We meet at hardware stores, parks, and vet clinics. We train in the actual environments where you need your dog to listen.

The Result: A "Thinking Dog" who can make good choices anywhere, not just in a classroom.

Client Reviews

“She came to us as a rescue and she was in a breeder facility for about six months before we got her. We brought her to Heather's dog school and we were able to learn all sorts of great stuff. Your normal commands, sit down, stay. We worked on come when called so she would come into the house. We did leash walking. We've had a great time. We'd highly recommend Heather and her program and Lucy had a great time here at training.

— Don and Lucy

“He was having some difficulties with walking. He was really excited and reactive around other dogs, sometimes people. My husband got to the point he would not take walks with us because his behavior was rather upsetting. After a few weeks, we've been practicing and now he has calmed down. He's now not so anxious. He seems happy on his walks and we're now walking his family again.”

— Caiti and Dylan

“We were first time dog owners, so we kind of were at a loss about where we should start. And some of our priorities were just having him acknowledge and listen to us. Sit and stay. Basic commands, walking on a leash. And over the past few months, Clark has become much more obedient. He's really good at leave it now. His house manners have improved and we're just really happy with the overall progress that we've made with Heather. So I can't recommend her enough.”

How to Get Started:
The Introductory Lesson

We do not offer standard "sales evaluations." We believe your time is valuable, so we get to work immediately. Your journey begins with a Behavior Discovery & Intro Lesson. This is a working session with one of our behavior specialists.

In this 60-minute session, we will:

Diagnose the Root Cause
Understand why your dog is jumping, barking, or ignoring you. (Hint: It’s usually not stubbornness; it’s a lack of "brakes.")

Test the "Engine"
We will work with your dog using our clicker-based methods to see how they learn. You will likely see a change in their focus within the first 20 minutes.

Create a Relief Plan
You will leave with a management strategy you can use the moment you get home to reduce chaos immediately.

Start with the Right Foundation.

Secure your 60-minute Introductory Lesson and get a clear diagnosis, real answers, and a practical plan you can use immediately.

Introductory Lesson FAQ

  • No.
This is a working training session.

We don’t spend 60 minutes “evaluating” while you watch. We begin teaching immediately. You’ll see how your dog learns, how we communicate, and you’ll leave with practical tools you can use right away.

  • This session reserves dedicated time with one of our behavior specialists and includes your personalized assessment and action plan.

We prepare for your dog specifically — and that time is set aside exclusively for you.

  • Honest answer: No.

Behavior change happens through consistency and structure. The Intro Lesson is where we diagnose the root cause, begin training, and determine the correct education level for your dog.

For lasting results, most families continue into one of our Core Programs.

  • Perfect.

We still begin with the Intro Lesson because every dog needs a foundation assessment. However, we can reserve your spot in a Core Program immediately and map out your long-term plan from day one.

    • Your dog (on a standard leash)

    • High-value treats (we can recommend options if needed)

    • An open mind and a willingness to participate

This is interactive. You will be learning alongside your dog.

  • We train in real-life environments — typically inside your home or another practical setting that reflects your daily routine.

Because behavior needs to work where life happens.

  • Common concerns include:

    • Jumping on guests

    • Leash pulling

    • Ignoring recall

    • Counter surfing

    • Barking at distractions

    • Overexcitement or lack of impulse control

If you’re unsure whether your dog is a fit, reach out and we’ll guide you.

  • This is for owners who:

    • Want real, structured training

    • Are willing to practice between sessions

    • Care about communication, not just commands

    • Want long-term results, not quick fixes

If that sounds like you, this is the right place to begin.
